The Village with the Longest Name in Europe
Have you ever heard of the village with the longest name in Europe? It in Wales, UK, and its name is ‘Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch’. It is even listed in the Guinness Book of Records. It is not an old Welsh name: it in the 1860s by a local man who was trying to make the village famous.
In 2001, the population was 3,040 and since then the population to 3,307. The village is on an island and is connected to mainland Wales by bridge. Unfortunately, a fire damaged the original bridge May 23, 1970. The current bridge is now part of the road A55 and appearance is quite pleasing.
The village welcomes about 200,000 visitors year. The most popular attraction is the railway station a big board with the name of the village can be found. Other places of interest the zoo, St Tysilio’s Church and Plas Cadnat Gardens.
This village is a small community and there are only a places to stay. But the surrounding area has a wide variety of accommodation, so visitors worry about where they will stay. What visitors won’t miss in the village are places to eat and drink. There is a pub called Tafarn Ty Gwyn right outside the railway station. It is open every day and it offers drinks and sandwiches.
